How do I install Website Widget?
If you’re using Safari, click the download link. When the widget download is complete, show Dashboard, click the Plus sign to display the Widget Bar and click the widget’s icon in the Widget Bar to open it. If you’re using a browser other than Safari, click the download link. How can I observe different Websites at once?
You have to launch multiple copies of Website Widget. Just click the + sign in the lower left corner of Dashboard and click Website’s icon in the Widget Bar as often as you want to open it.

Why reports Website Widget "Host is down", although I can access the site with my browser
Probably you use a Firewall like LittleSnitch which prevents curl, a little Terminal program, from connecting to the internet to check a site for changes. So please check your Firewall rules.
